Shake It Science - Lowering the Metabolic ‘Set-Point’

Current evidence shows that your body has a metabolic weight ‘set-point’, which is influenced by many of the factors listed earlier. For those who are overweight or obese, this set-point is higher, which can lead to difficulties in losing weight using dieting alone, or the swift regaining of weight following a diet regime. In order to successfully lose weight and keep it off, it is necessary to lower your body’s metabolic set-point.


The Shake It Program has been specifically designed to assist your body to lose weight and keep it off by making it simpler to adhere to a lower caloric intake, and also through addressing the lifestyle and behavioural factors that are typically neglected in weight loss diets. Further, once you have lowered your set-point, and reached your goal weight, the Shake It Program provides ongoing direction and guidance on how to maintain your new weight. By adhering to the program, you are following a scientifically proven process to lose fat mass, lower weight, and to maintain it long-term.

The Key Principles of the Shake It Program:


1. Two healthy, wholefood eating plans to choose from to suit everybody

The Shake It Program consists of two diet options: 

Ketogenic (low carbohydrate, high fat) OR 

Low Fat (reduced fat, liberal carbohydrates from wholefood sources, e.g. vegetables, fruit, wholegrains). 

Both dietary options feature adequate protein for satiety, increased thermogenesis (to help fat burning), and to maintain lean muscle mass.

2. Clinically researched probiotic strains for weight management

3. Protein-rich eating plans to increase satiety – including meal substitutes for convenience

4. Evidence-based exercise recommendations to help you lose weight and keep it off

Shake it is a three-phase approach to successful and long-term weight loss. After the initial ‘Intense Phase’ of 6 consecutive weeks on the Shake It Program, 2-week diet breaks cycled with active dieting until your goal weight is achieved.

In addition to our usual Health Fund Rebates for Consults the following funds have a special arrangement:


Health Insurance Fund of Australia (HIF)

Eligible under the ‘Healthy Lifestyle Benefits’ category.


BUPA (NRMA, SGIO, SGIC, MBF, HBA)

Shake It is a BUPA approved weight management program under the banner of "Health Management" extras service. The benefit payable for BUPA is for the program as a whole.

Rebates are for face to face consultations only and the amount payable depends on your BUPA member policy.


St Luke’s Health Weight management programs are paid under St Luke's ‘Health Management Program’ which are available to their members holding combined hospital and extras policies.


HBF

Shake It is an approved ‘Healthy Living Program’.


Health Care Insurance Commonwealth Bank (CBHS) Health Fund
